LeapFrog LeapPad Ultra shows off its insides at the FCC

Image

If you've got kids, or just like pretending you still are one on weekends, then you're probably familiar with LeapFrog's infant-friendly LeapPad. We might suggest that you hold off buying one for the next few weeks, thanks to a listing for a LeapPad Ultra that meandered through the FCC today. Given that the LeapPad 2 hit stores last August, we'll expect to learn a lot more about this unit over the next couple of weeks. That said, if you can't wait, or are just curious about what lurks beneath its green plastic shell, check out the teardown gallery below.

BitTorrent launches 'Bundle' media format with Ultra Music partnership

BitTorrent launches Bundle media format with Ultra Music partnership

The folks at BitTorrent have been busy little bees since the beginning of 2013. Between Sync, SoShare, Live and Surf you'd think the company already had enough projects to work on. Now it's adding a new file format called Bundle to its lineup of experimental alphas and betas. The technical details are a bit thin at the moment, but we do know that it's a torrent-based media format with tools added on top that allow for donation or email collection, among other things. The first release is part of a partnership with Ultra Music (home of artists such as David Guetta, Tiesto and deadmau5): a behind-the-scenes glimpse at Kaskade's 2012 tour. When you download the Bundle, which is basically a teaser for an upcoming tour documentary, you're also granted free access to the Dada Life remix of Dynasty. The rest of the content inside the file is essentially a self contained record store, with additional media you can unlock by submitting your email address. After the break you'll find a quick video overview of the format, which sounds like it has plenty of potential. Now let's hope BitTorrent isn't stretching itself too thin with this latest project.

Ultra Mobile debuts $19 calling plan with unlimited international SMS

Ultra Mobile debuts $19 calling plan with unlimited international SMS

If you're living on a tight budget but still need to keep in touch with loved ones who live abroad, you'll be glad to know of a new calling plan from Ultra Mobile. The upstart MVNO offers discounted access to T-Mobile's network, and for $19 per month, you'll fetch unlimited text messages to 194 countries, 250 voice minutes (with $1.25 toward international calling), and 50MB of data usage. For comparison, Simple Mobile offers a $25 plan that includes unlimited international texting and domestic calling, but if you let your thumbs do most of the talking, Ultra Mobile brings a lot of value to the table. You can snag its $19 plan starting tomorrow, which might be the perfect match for whatever Nokia has up its sleeve.
